Ready for an extravagant Independence Day? Luckily, the Greater Cedar Valley has plenty of celebrations to choose from!

Pregaming: (July 3rd)

July 3rd is Military Appreciation Night, bring your military ID & get a free drink! The Riverwalk Park celebration begins at 4pm; bring two non-perishable food items & get a free pork burger for dinner. Music starts at 4:30pm and goes all night. Some projected highlights for the night include a poker walk, a youth volleyball tournament, the Wapsi Warrior Challenge, a bags tournament, and of course lots of live music.

Join Reinbeck for a Community Appreciation Dinner at 5pm, followed by the Movie in the Park, Little Rascals, at 8:45pm and the Fireman’s Dance at 9pm with music provided by Milk and Honey.

Kick things off on the 4th with a parade at 9 am followed by festivities in the Park starting at 10:45am. Kids activities kickoff then, followed by a coed sand volleyball tournament and a performance by the Independence Community Band. At 2pm there will be a veteran’s memorial dedication at the courthouse, and at 4pm the live music begins. Catch the Heath Allen Band and the Cedar Wapsi Brothers followed by their closer, The Pork Tornados. At 10pm, watch a fantastic display of fireworks over the Wapsipinicon River.

Bright and early celebrations include both a pickleball tournament and a fishing derby at 8am. The Kiddie Parade is at 12:30pm followed by the grand parade at 1:30pm.  Egg toss, petting zoo, crazy train rides, mini-golf, bounce houses, face painting and more begin at 3pm. Music in the park starts at 7pm and fireworks at 10pm. After the fireworks, enjoy a group lantern launch by the Lions at the shelter house.

Shell Rock
Start your 4th at 10 am with a parade through downtown. Noon is when all the fun begins with cow chip bingo and a craft & vendor fair in the Boyd building. Also, check out the splash zone and yard games while you grab festival food & an ice-cold beer. Or if you’d rather have something freshly grilled, the Bremer County Cattlemen will be grilling hotdogs, hamburgers, and ribeye sandwiches at Shell Rock Senior Living’s west lawn from 9am to 2pm. Register for the bags tournament at noon with the tournament beginning at 12:30pm then stay for laser tag at 3 pm. Stick around for the Skunk River Band from 7 to midnight.

Spend the 4th at the ballpark! It’s the Waterloo Bucks' fifth annual "Independence Day Jersey Auction." The Bucks will wear special Independence Day jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game with all proceeds going to Honor Flight. It is also Military Heroes Night at the Bucks; the first 500 fans will receive a Military Heroes Card set that recognizes military members throughout the Cedar Valley. At 5:45pm, the members appearing in this special card set will be honored on the field. At 6:35pm the Bucks will take on the Rochester Honkers. After the game, stick around to watch the post-game fireworks extravaganza.
